Editorial vs. Fine Art - Food Photography

          

       

The top two photographs are still life fine art food photography, while the bottom photographs are editorial food photography. In general I think that while both types of food photography are artistic and creative, I find fine art food photography to be more abstract, artistic and unique in comparison to editorial food photography. There is a more natural feel to the photograph in regards to editorial food photography, while fine art food photography is more abstract, posed and set up.

What I Learned - Food Photography

- Good lighting is key to making your food and photograph appealing

- Adding little things in the photo to hint your viewer to what it is you're making is important. For example if you were making blueberry muffins, you could add blueberries around the photo to make it clear to the viewer

- Adding objects like string, tarnished silverware, leafs or flowers, etc.

- Using fabrics underneath your food set up

Snapshot Aesthetic

Snapshot Aesthetic: Snapshot aesthetic refers to a photograph taken spontaneously and unconsciously, which typically produces a random-looking composition, but at the same time captures a more natural and artless type of feel.
